Dress Code

  1. "A pupil who goes to school without proper attention having been given to personal cleanliness or neatness of dress may be sent home to properly prepare for school or shall be required to prepare himself for the schoolroom before entering." (California Code of Regulations, Section 302 or Chapter 2)
  2. Schools are places of business and education is indeed a serious business.
  3. Dress and grooming affect the attitude of students in their work and study habits and contribute to a productive learning environment.
  4. Students and parents/guardians will be informed of the dress code at the beginning of each school-year and students who violate the standards will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action.
  5. Principals/designees are responsible for enforcing the following standards of dress and for establishing additional local school regulations as they become necessary and appropriate:
  • Clothing must be clean and in good repair and can not be tattered or torn.
  • Clothing must be the proper size and fit.
  • "Sagging" and/or "bagging" are not acceptable.
  • Clothing, jewelry, and personal items (backpacks, fanny packs, gym bags, water bottles, etc.) must be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which are vulgar, profane, or sexually suggestive, which bear drug, alcohol, or tobacco company advertising, promotions, and likenesses, or which advocate racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice.
  • Clothing must be sufficient to conceal undergarments at all times.
  • See-through or fish-net fabrics, halter tops, low necklines, sheer garments, off-the-shoulder or low-cut tops, bare midriffs, and skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh are prohibited.
  • Beach attire, tank tops, sunglasses, and gloves may not be worn.
  • Shirts must be tucked in.
  • Shoes with closed toes and closed heels must be worn at all times.
  • Thongs, backless shoes, and sandals are not acceptable.
  • Hair must be clean, neat, and well-groomed.
  • Unkempt hair or bright, unnatural, or exotic hair color will not be permitted.
  • Hair may not be sprayed by any coloring that would drip when wet.
  • Hats, caps, bandannas, curlers, clips, and all other head coverings are not permitted.
  • Clothing with undesirable insignia or gang related symbols may not be worn.
  • Excessive make-up or jewelry, including large dangling earrings, and pierced body parts, including eyebrows, noses, navels, and/or lips will not be permitted. Pierced ears are permitted.
